MetroAtlanta Ambulance First in Georgia to Adopt Web Based Training Tool

Date:  2004-09-28

MetroAtlanta Ambulance is the first in Georgia to institute web-based training for their management and staff utilizing the Brady Group?s, Virtual Solutions Manager (VSM).

The Virtual Solution Manager, designed by the Brady Group in Grand Rapids, Michigan, has allowed MetroAtlanta to automate regulatory compliance and clinical oversight of their staff and gives the management team the ability to communicate critical information to staff personnel, produce compliance reports as needed and conduct internal audits to ensure compliance with corporate policy, state laws, rules and regulations.

MetroAtlanta President/CEO Pete Quinones stated, ? We operate 24 hours a day seven days a week. We have 240 full and part time employees and are handling more than 80,000 patient transports each year. That?s a lot of paperwork and a lot of professional employees to monitor to make sure they are in compliance with all national, state and local regulations. Our ability to provide quality medical care to those we serve is paramount in our company and requires continuous training. Due to the variety of schedules our employee?s work and the fact we never close for business, mandatory training was requiring us to hold quarterly meetings, at various times of day, at multiple sites, over a period of months and it was requiring our employees to attend meetings on their days off, something we didn?t want them to have to continue. By implementing a web based employee training and compliance tool we where able to solve a number of issues affecting our company and our employees. By establishing kiosk at each of our stations and giving employees web based access from home, we?ve been able to provide the exact training materials for our staff we have in the past and eliminate costly mandatory training sessions that required employees to spend their days off in meetings. The employees enjoy reviewing the Industry Journals, being able to study at their pace at their time of choosing, not having to attend meetings on their days off and the ability to have instant access of their progress in maintaining the Continuing Medical Education required by law to keep their certifications. It?s also a great tool for providing inter-office communications of important company information.?

According to Quinones, VSM will be transparent to his customers, however, he said it will enhance the organizations ability manage regulatory compliance and clinical oversight of his personnel, which he stated will translate into better customer service to his clients and high quality clinical services to their patients.

Quinones stated, ? I think it?s important for our constitutes to know that we have taken appropriate steps to ensure our organizations commitment to maintaining a highly trained workforce by providing continuous education and training to our employees. Just as important, by investing in VSM, we are able to enhance the lives of our employees by assisting them in their ongoing efforts to maintain high clinical standards and stay abreast of changes in the healthcare industry without requiring them to spend their days off at the office in meetings and in turn spend more quality time with their family. All of which will translate into MetroAtlanta?s ability to provide the best possible care to those who are counting on us when they call for an ambulance.
