MetroAtlanta Ambulance Paramedic Jennifer Johnson, Supervisor Jack Spradling and EMT B.J. Choi were recognized by the Cobb Chamber of Commerce with the Award of Merit on September 30, 2004 at the Annual Cobb Public Safety Appreciation Breakfast held at the Cobb Galleria Centre. The medics were recognized for their unselfish act of bravery and for placing their lives in great risk and going above and beyond the call of duty to save the life of another.
On May 8, 2004, after hearing multiple rounds of gunfire while standing in the parking lot of their office, the off duty medics responded just down the street to find six victims of a drive by shooting suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. The three quickly began triaging and assisting the patients by helping them to apply pressure to minimize the bleeding then immediately called for back up. Within minutes Marietta Fire/EMS arrived and MetroAtlanta Ambulance had 5 ambulance units on the scene of the incident. The initial crew prepared and assigned patients for transport and directed the arriving units to their patients. MetroAtlanta Vice President, Devan Seabaugh stated, ?The quick actions of these medics and willingness to respond to the call even after a long day?s work and being off duty resulted in saving four lives that day. We are extremely proud of them and congratulate them on an honor well deserved.?
