MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service – Integral Part of GEMHSA’s Evacuation Efforts

October 7, 2016-Local ambulance provider, Metro Atlanta Ambulance Service, served an integral role in the ongoing evacuation efforts of patients along coastal Georgia in preparation of Hurricane Mathew.

Metro Atlanta Ambulance Service was activated on Monday by the Georgia Emergency Management & Homeland Security Agency (GEMHSA). Staff reported to the GEMHSA Emergency Operations Center in Atlanta, GA to begin the process of coordinating EMS resources throughout the state to begin the pending evacuation effort. 

MetroAtlanta Ambulance CEO Pete Quinones stated, “Our team members have been working with other GEMHSA agency and other officials to prepare for this day and while we never hoped it would come, we are prepared to carry out the mission and have coordinated the movement of over 1,000 individuals with some type of medical or functional need.

MetroAtlanta Ambulance serves as the lead for the Transportation Management Group for State Operations Center in Atlanta, GA and provides staff for 24 hour on site coordination of efforts to assign transport resources to locations throughout the state requiring evacuation.

In addition, MetroAtlanta Ambulance Service has responded more than 10 ALS Ambulances and personnel to coastal Georgia to assist with the evacuation effort in preparation for Hurricane Mathew.
