July 28, 2016, Marietta, GA – Metro Atlanta Ambulance is using state of the art technology to help stabilize life threatening respiratory emergencies using portable video laryngoscopes. The King Vision Video Laryngoscopes are used to assist paramedics in treating patients who have stopped breathing or are having difficulty. The technology allows paramedics to have a clear view when inserting a plastic tube into the patient’s mouth, through the vocal cords and into the trachea. The procedure allows the Paramedic to assist the patient with breathing or provide artificial breathing when the patient is having difficulty breathing on their own. The King Vision Video Laryngoscopes have a small camera on the insertion end of the device that transmits video to a small screen on the handle. The technology allows paramedic to have a clear view of the vocal cords when passing the tube through them, a very delicate procedure, and provides real time proof the tube has been properly inserted into the trachea and not into the esophagus. Physician Medical Director Julio Lairet stated, “Intubations in the field environment are extremely difficult to begin with and the company’s commitment to invest in this state of the art technology to enhance patient outcomes is a real testament to the quality of services being delivered.” Metro Atlanta Ambulance has been using the technology since 2014 and was one of the first ambulance services in Georgia put the device on all their ambulance units. The private, locally owned, Marietta based company provides 911 ambulance service to Cobb and Paulding Counties and inter hospital Advance Life Support and Critical Care Ambulance services to some of the largest and most respected healthcare systems in the state of Georgia.
